If you wish to be more active, there is lots to do at Domes of Elounda Crete and in the local area. The sheltered setting in the Bay of Elounda is perfect for watersports enthusiasts, and the nearby town of Elounda offers an interesting selection of shops and restaurants based around a pretty fishing harbour. The magical island of Spinalonga, with its Venetian fortress and ruined houses which seem to tumble into the turquoise waters below should not be missed; it has a fascinating history and was the site of a leper colony until the mid 20th century. The nearby village of Plaka, a short walk from the hotel, is a delightful little spot to watch the boats travelling back and forwards from Spinalonga and potter in the gift shops.
